Mission Statement

The Junk Journal Convention came to fruition by Vicky Breslin as a last hurrah to her illustrious career in the Arts and Crafts industry. She was inspired by Kelly Bigelow, a dedicated artist whose desire was to leave behind a legacy promoting art and creativity for everyone. Kelly recently passed away. It is our hope to continue sharing her love of art through this endeavor. We can only imagine her smiling down on us.

There is a lot of exposure online to art and classes. I wanted to do it the old-fashioned way, in person. I have experience in being the first in many arts and craft arenas including the first Rubber Stamp convention in Northern California and the first Scrapbook convention in the United States. I want to be the first to host a Junk Journal convention and share a lifetime of my love for art, creativity and teaching experiences. I could not do this without the help of my dear friends and family and YOU, our sponsors.

OUR AUDIENCE

A junk journal maker seeks to share creativity and explore new ideas while connecting with others who have similar goals. Many people find junk journaling to be a calming and therapeutic activity. For instance, someone might create a junk journal to document their experiences living in a small town or a big city. There are several reasons for creating junk journals, including:

  • Storing memories and ideas

  • Junk journals can serve as a place to preserve meaningful objects from everyday life and document thoughts and experiences.

  • Artistic expression

  • These journals provide a platform for creative techniques such as collage, mixed media, drawing, painting, and stamping.

  • A planner or calendar

  • Junk journals can also be creatively utilized to keep track of appointments and important dates.
